announced today that it has loaned defender Leandro González Pirez to Club Atlético River Plate through 2023. River Plate will also hold an option to purchase the defender.
“We continue to make moves with the intention of best positioning our roster moving forward and we feel that this loan gives us options to do so. We’re also pleased for Leandro to be able to return to his former club and wish him well during his loan,” said Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Chris Henderson.
González Pirez signed for Inter Miami during its inaugural season in July 2020. He went on to make 46 total appearances, all starts, and play 4,095 minutes for the team over the last two seasons. He also registered two goals and five assists in that time.
The Buenos Aires, Argentina native will return to River Plate, where he began his career, rising through the academy ranks before making his professional debut with the team. He went on to make 35 senior appearances for the team from 2011 to 2013.
