Monthly child tax credit payments may mean a big tax surprise in the spring for some parents

The bill signed into law by President Joe Biden increased the Child Tax Credit from $2,000 to up to $3,600 and allowed families the option to receive 50% of their 2021 child tax credit in the form of monthly payments from July 15 to Dec. 15.

This advance windfall could help many families, but it’s only scheduled to last until the end of 2021. Could the payments continue into 2022?
