Nottingham Forest have won the battle to bring James Garner back to the City Ground.
The midfielder has arrived on a season-long loan from Manchester United, with Forest having fended off rival interest from arch rivals Derby County and Stoke City — where they suffered a 1-0 defeat yesterday.
Forest have remained patient in their efforts to land the 20-year-old this summer. Garner scored four goals in 19 starts and one substitute appearance during a loan spell in the second half of last season at Forest.
And that persistence has paid off, with United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer having given the green light for Garner to return to Nottingham after the player agreed a new contract at Old Trafford. Garner’s new deal is understood to tie him to the Premier League club for three seasons, with the option of a further year.
