The Watertown Development Co. has chosen to opt out of the existing memorandum of understanding concerning a planned new ice arena in town.
“The memorandum of understanding has changed with the Watertown Development Co. choosing to focus on just the economic development aspect of it. They’re still committed. We have an agreement. All the best parts of the memorandum of understanding are still in place, and we are still moving forward with it. This is a slight alteration in the original plan, but you don’t tackle a huge project like this without a few hiccups along the way,” said Mayor Ried Holien during last week’s city council meeting.
“I believe that it’s pertinent for the city to take the lead and make sure that the ice facility is built. And the way to do that is by issuing a sales tax bond,” said City Manager Amanda Mack.
